She is best known for her role in the Telugu film Ullasamga Utsahamga and Simha.Ullal was born in Muscat, Oman to Indian immigrants parents from Mangalore. She is of Devadiga ancestry.She studied at Indian School Muscat and Indian School Salalah in Oman. Later she moved to Mumbai with her mother and attended Durelo Convent High School and later studied at Vartak College. At college she befriended Arpita Khan, her college mate and the younger sister of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The friendship led to the chance meeting with Salman Khan and film offers.Ullal made her movie debut in the 2005 Hindi movie Lucky: No Time for Love opposite Salman Khan. After the movie, she was noted for striking similarities in appearance with Aishwarya Rai. She later said that although the comparison didn't help her as an actor, but it gave her a lot of recognition. Ullal then appeared with Khan's brother Sohail Khan in Aryan, which did not do well at the box office.
